Ambitious plans of CIECH Sarzyna – further development of the product offer and foreign expansion are priorities for 2019

CIECH Sarzyna, the largest Polish manufacturer of plant protection products, has presented its ambitious plans for 2019. The basis for the development of the AGRO business of the CIECH Group will be an intensive enlargement of the product offer, progressive international expansion, and strong integration with the company PROPLAN, acquired in July 2018 - a Spanish supplier of plant protection products, operating on three continents. CIECH will also continue to systematically strengthen its promotion activities, including loyalty programmes for points of sale and farms.

At a special press conference organized during a meeting for distributors of plant protection products, representatives of the CIECH Group also summarized the most important events of the last 12 months in their AGRO business. Among the most important achievements, they mentioned, among others, an increased share in foreign markets (in 2018, deliveries to Canada and Australia were launched), enlargement of the product offer by 12 new products, and an impressive increase in sales of CIECH Sarzyna flagship products over the last four seasons – cereal herbicides (especially under the CHWASTOX brand) and AGROSAR 360 SL glyphosate.

Our very good results - especially in the context of the market in plant protection products in Poland which has been dwindling in recent years - are the effect of the high quality of our products, consistent enlargement of the product range, progressive expansion into foreign markets, and strengthening of sales and marketing areas - says Mariusz Grelewicz, President of the Management Board of CIECH Sarzyna.

In 2018 CIECH Sarzyna expanded its offer by 12 new products in the area of AGRO, including SARMIN maKSi - a foliar fertilizer with a very high content of silicon and potassium, easily accessible to plants. Their positive impact on useful plants, visible primarily in the form of an increase in the yield level, was confirmed in the registration experiments conducted by the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation in Puławy. The second important novelty in the past year was a cereal herbicide, CHWASTOX Nowy Trio 390 SL, intended for the control of dicotyledonous weeds in winter wheat and spring barley.

According to representatives of the CIECH Group, by 2020 the offer of CIECH Sarzyna will include as many as 65 AGRO products, which is twice as many as in 2017. In 2019, the Company intends to expand its offer by over 20 new products. The wide range of crop protection offered by CIECH will be extended by two new cereal herbicides: CHWASTOX UNIWERSALNY 60 SG and TOSCANA 75WG. CHWASTOX UNIWERSALNY 60 SG is an effective solution to control weeds - a product with a high content of the active ingredient, convenient to use and completely soluble in water thanks to the innovative utility form of SG. On the other hand, TOSCANA 75 WG, a product that controls the basic dicotyledonous weeds in cereal cultivation, is characterized by a well-known and approved utility form and no limitations in the selection of succession crops.

In turn, TEZOSAR 500 SC will expand the offer of the CIECH Group in the area of herbicide protection of maize. It is a product that protects against weed infestation in the period critical for maize, for 6-8 weeks after the treatment, and controls bothersome dicotyledonous weeds. This product is characterized by proven high efficiency at a water dose of 150-300 l/ha. In the Sarzyna product range, another fungicide, AZOKSAR 250 SC, will appear, which is used for prevention or intervention, immediately after the first symptoms of the disease are observed. This product perfectly complements a popular CIECH fungicide - TARCZA ŁAN EXTRA 250 EW and is characterized by a wide application window (BBCH 30-59).

It is also worth emphasizing the great success of plant protection products offered by CIECH outside of Poland. The value of CIECH exports in the AGRO business increased by 70 percent in the period 2015-2017. Currently, the Company sells its plant protection products to approximately 40 countries around the world. In 2018, CIECH was involved in intense commercial activities within this business in Australia, Canada and Iran, while strengthening its position in current export markets – including Germany, Ireland, Great Britain, Thailand, Spain, Belarus and the Baltic states.

In 2018, CIECH benefited from the favourable market situation and increased MCPA supplies to Australia. It is a market with huge potential, having an area of almost 25 million hectares (compared to less than 11 million hectares in Poland) and the largest MCPA consumption in the world. We receive amazing opinions from customers about our products, mainly due to the constant and repeatable very high quality, which is the result of over 60 years of Sarzyna experience in the production of plant protection products - says Mariusz Grelewicz, President of the Management Board of CIECH Sarzyna.

Representatives of the CIECH Group also emphasized a number of benefits resulting from the integration with the company PROPLAN, a Spanish supplier of plant protection products, operating on three continents, acquired in 2018. Among them they listed access to registered active ingredients and 120 end products. This means big savings for CIECH, as product registration in new markets is time consuming, lasting from 3 to 5 years. In addition, preparing documentation and conducting tests is associated with high costs. Potential synergies resulting from the takeover of PROPLAN by CIECH also include the mutual exchange of the product portfolio available in the home markets (Spain and Poland are respectively the 4th and 6th largest markets for plant protection products in Europe) and access to research and development infrastructure.

In 2019, the Company intends to continue its intensive activities in the field of marketing and sales support, including the development of the following loyalty programmes: “Teraz Sarzyna”, dedicated to the points of sale of plant protection products, and “Twoja Sarzyna" for farms.
